Chicken Shop Date

Chicken Shop Date is a British comedy interview series on YouTube, created and hosted by Amelia Dimoldenberg, that began on March 12, 2014. Each episode is staged as a date in a fried chicken shop in London.

The idea came from a humorous dating column Dimoldenberg wrote at 17 for The Cut, a London youth publication. In March 2014, she filmed the first episode with a student camera operator, with grime rapper Ghetts as her guest. Early episodes featured artists from the London grime and hip-hop scene, among them Kano. She first interviewed women in 2017, and a 2020 episode with actor Daniel Kaluuya opened the series to film stars from Britain and abroad.

The episodes are filmed in working takeaway restaurants, where Dimoldenberg and her guest share chicken and chips as if on a first date. A shoot of 30 to 40 minutes is cut down to a video of 4 to 12 minutes. The humor rests on deadpan pauses, deliberate awkwardness, blunt flirting and cutaways to the kitchen staff cooking. Later guests included Billie Eilish and actor Andrew Garfield, whose episode came out in 2024.

Dimoldenberg makes the series through her own production company, Dimz Inc. She received a Webby Special Achievement Award at the 29th Webby Awards in April 2025 for creating and hosting Chicken Shop Date. The series also made her a red-carpet interviewer, and her awkward exchanges with stars at award ceremonies follow the same deadpan style as the episodes filmed over chicken and chips in London.
