The Joe Rogan Experience

The Joe Rogan Experience is a long-form audio and video talk show hosted by comedian Joe Rogan that began in 2009. The program features unscripted conversations with scientists, athletes, comedians, authors, and public figures.

Rogan launched the broadcast on December 24, 2009, as a live video stream on Ustream with comedian Brian Redban. Production expanded to YouTube and open RSS feeds. Producer Jamie Vernon joined the crew in 2012 to manage audio engineering. In May 2020, Rogan signed an exclusive licensing contract with Spotify valued at over $100 million, moving full catalog distribution to the streaming service by December 2020. Spotify renewed the partnership in February 2024 under an estimated $250 million agreement that ended exclusivity and restored video releases to YouTube and competing podcast platforms.

Episodes run from two to four hours and feature relaxed, open-ended discussions without commercial ad breaks interrupting the conversation. Recurring formats include the JRE MMA Show, dedicated to mixed martial arts fighters, and Fight Companion livestreams. Prominent guests who have appeared on the program include entrepreneur Elon Musk and numerous touring stand-up comedians. In January 2022, medical professionals published an open letter criticizing medical claims made on the podcast regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting musician Neil Young to remove his music catalog from Spotify in protest.

The show won Best Comedy Podcast at the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards in January 2021. Production relocated from Los Angeles, California, to a newly constructed private studio in Austin, Texas, during late 2020. The broadcast had passed 1,000 recorded episodes by August 2017 and crossed 2,000 episodes in 2023. Audio editions distribute across Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and competing aggregators, while full-length video recordings stream on YouTube. The show continues to release new conversations several times each week from the Austin facility.
