My Favorite Murder

My Favorite Murder is an American true crime comedy podcast started in 2016 by comedians Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. Both creators met at a Los Angeles party in 2014 and bonded over shared interests in criminal investigations. Early recordings took place in a living room and quickly developed a devoted following known as Murderinos.

Distribution started under Feral Audio in January 2016 before moving to Midroll Media in September 2017. Kilgariff and Hardstark set up their own independent network called Exactly Right in November 2018, adding original programs from other creators. Downloads reached 35 million per month in 2020, and the show previously reached number 3 on the iTunes podcast chart in April 2018. Amazon and Wondery bought exclusive early release rights and ad representation in January 2022 for an estimated $100 million. The partnership ended in January 2024, followed by an expansion of video episodes to Netflix in January 2026.

Standard episodes feature each co-host researching and narrating a murder case, historical disaster, or survival account. Shorter Monday releases called minisodes present listener letters describing hometown crimes and unusual local events. Sound engineer Steven Ray Morris joined as producer in June 2016, making on-air appearances and handling audio editing. Regular episodes conclude with a recurring catchphrase and an audio clip of Hardstark's cat meowing into the microphone. Former investigator Paul Holes appeared onstage during live shows to discuss criminal forensics and cold case investigative methods.

Live theater tours across North America and Europe sold out venues including Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco and Eventim Apollo in London between 2017 and 2019. Forge Books published the co-hosts' joint memoir Stay Sexy and Don't Get Murdered in May 2019, with actor Paul Giamatti contributing guest narration to the audiobook edition. The Webby Awards granted the pair the 2022 People's Voice Award for Best Co-Hosts. Ceremonies hosted by the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards later presented the show with the 2022 Audible Audio Pioneer Award alongside the 2025 Best Overall Ensemble trophy.
